To follow behind a solid year of touring and the release of the album ‘The Snake’, Swedish drum & vocal duo Wildbirds & Peacedrums have just released the single ‘My Heart’ last month.  A ‘wonderfully uplifting pop track that blossoms into a full-blown gospel anthem’, the song showcases singer Mariam Wallentin’s haunting, addictive refrain.  The video’s water-colour layer look provides a stunning visual complement.  Catch the band on their North American tour supporting St. Vincent.

What: I couldn’t help but tip another great song from the self titled, self released debut of Postdata.  Paul Murphy of Wintersleep and his brother recording deeply personal songs in their family home.  Currently on the road in Europe with David Bazan.

Sigur Ros frontman Jónsi has given us more new music from his upcoming releases, a song called Go Do (in the video below) from a EP with same name out in March.  The full-length solo debut comes out in April, right around when Jónsi will be doing his North American tour, dates below.  Looking forward to it.

‘Written In Reverse’ by Spoon

Who: Sharon Van Etten from Brooklyn, NY.

What:  The most beautiful song I’ve heard this year.  A new track from Sharon Van Etten called ‘Love More’, the first artist of 2010 for the Shaking Through project (brought to us by Weathervane Music).  Recorded at Miner Street Recordings in Philadelphia in December, this song shines with drones, reverb and Sharon’s soft harmonies.  Check out the videos of the making of.

‘Shaking Through’ is a curated series of audio and video recordings featuring our favorite independent artists, their music, and artfully produced video of the recording sessions that went into making that music. Each selected artist has the opportunity to record a new song in a high-end studio with noted engineers and producers. The sessions take place over two days including the recording, mixing and video. The process is shot with cinematic flair in HD video, giving the audience an exciting and intimate window on the artist’s process, and giving the artist a powerful showcase for their artistic vision. ‘Shaking Through” is a collaborative effort of Weathervane Music and WXPN radio in Philadelphia.

‘Marching Through Your Head’ by Zeus.  Visually pleasing video for the first single off Zeus‘ debut lp, Say Us (out on vinyl Feb. 9th, CD and digital Feb. 23rd).  The video was directed by Adam Makarenko, and co-directed by Alan Poon, integrating live action with stop-motion animation with meticulously detailed miniature sets.  The video documents the journey of the band’s boots up to the peak of the mythical Mount Olympus in search of the Greek God of the sky, Zeus – only to find that Zeus the God is actually Zeus the band.  They’ll be touring North America later this month with Jason Collett, dates at CMW and SXSW as well.
