This is one of those bands where’s I’ve heard the name for years, but have never had the opportunity to really sit down with their music.  Or go see them live.

I’m currently enjoying going through third LP from Halifax’s Contrived (out on Hand Drawn Dracula Nov. 11th) titled blank, blank, blank.

Produced by Dave Neufeld (Broken Social Scene, Super Furry Animals), the band has apparently shifted their harder rock sound for something with more pop sensibilities.  Comprised of Wintersleep and Holy Fuck members, you can really hear that in the music, each track shifting back and forth to those prospective and distinctive influences.

He’s the standout track for me.  Not A Goodbye is what I’d call a love-child from BSS‘s 7/4 (Shoreline) and Dinosaur Jr‘s ‘Feel The Pain‘.  Take a listen here.   Too bad it takes over 2 minutes to start hearing the vocals, I think they work great with this jam.
